چکیده

THE XANTHINE-OXIDASE (XO) system has been considered to be involved in warm ischemia-reperfusion injury of the small intestinal mucosa. 1 Briefly, during warm ischemia in the small intestine. xanthine dehydrogenase (XD) is converted to XO, which produces superoxide radicals in the presence of its" substrate (hypoxanthine and xanthine) and oxygen.2 Meanwhile, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is degraded and its degradation product. hypoxanthine. accumulates in the mucosal tissue.z Upon reperfusion (rewanning and reoxygenation), the mucosal tissue is damaged by superoxide radicals produced by converted XO, oxygen, and accumulated hypoxanthine.3 In order to examine whether the XO system is the cause of cold ischemia-reperfusion injury, mucosal XD. XO hypoxanthine. and maltase (MAL) (as an index of mucosal injury) were measured in an autotransplantation model of 24-hour preserved canine intestine.

P-78: Role of Allopurinol, as An Antioxidant Factor, in Increasing The Number of Received Oocytes and Embryos, and Reduce Apoptosis after Heterotopic Transplantation Mouse Ovarian Tissue

Background: Ischemia and reperfusion after transplantation is the main problem which decreases follicular density in the grafted ovarian. Many sources of free radicals such as xanthine oxidase were generated during ischemia. In this study, we used allopurinol as xanthine oxidase inhibitor to reduce ischemia-reperfusion injury, to increase received oocytes and embryos, and to decrease Apoptosis ...

Mucosal damage and recovery of the intestine after prolonged preservation and transplantation in dogs.

BACKGROUND Although much is known about the mucosal damage that occurs after intestinal warm ischemia and reperfusion and its recovery, little is known about the effect of cold preservation and transplantation on the mucosa. We studied the electrophysiological, biochemical, and histological changes of the intestinal mucosa after preservation for 24 hr and subsequent transplantation. METHODS T...

Oxidative Stress and Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Gastrointestinal Tract and Antioxidant, Protective Agents

Exacerbation of hypoxic injury after reoxygenation is a crucial mechanism mediating organ injury in transplantation, and in myocardial, hepatic, gastrointestinal, cerebral, renal, and other ischemic syndromes. The occlusion and reperfusion of the splanchnic artery is a useful animal model to elucidate the mechanism of gastrointestinal injury induced by ischemia-reperfusion (I/R). Although xanth...

Xanthine oxidase inhibition attenuates ischemic-reperfusion lung injury.

Ischemic-reperfusion lung injury is a factor potentially limiting the usefulness of distant organ procurement for heart-lung transplantation. Toxic oxygen metabolites are considered a major etiologic factor in reperfusion injury. Although oxygen-free radicals may be generated by many mechanisms, we investigated the role of xanthine oxidase in this injury process by using lodoxamide, a xanthine ...

Protective Role of Rheum tanguticum Polysaccharides 1 on Radiation-Induced Intestinal Mucosal Injury

The protective effects of Rheum tanguticum polysaccharide 1 (RTP1), which is extracted from the Chinese traditional medicine Rheum tanguticum, on radiation-induced intestinal mucosal injury was investigated. Rat intestinal crypt epithelial cells (IEC-6 cells) and Sprague-Dawley rats were each divided into control, irradiated and RTP1-pretreated irradiated groups. After irradiation, cell surviva...
